Look Back
The TMC Arizona Distance Classic was originally founded by John “the Penguin” Bingham in 2004, and the first races (half marathon, 5K) took place on March 13th, 2005.

Under Bingham and two subsequent owners the event was held continuously for fifteen years through 2019. The less common quarter marathon distance, which is an AZDC signature event, was added in 2011. The 2020 event was held virtually due to COVID-19, and then it laid dormant for five years until the non-profit Southern Arizona Roadrunners purchased it and quickly shifted into high gear to put on the 2025 races (half marathon, quarter marathon, 5K).
The TMC Arizona Distance Classic is described as the most scenic Arizona race event of the year. It takes place just north of Tucson in Oro Valley. It is a boutique event drawing walkers, runners and wheelchair racers locally and from around the country.
The event, which starts at the gorgeous campus of Roche Tissue Diagnostics, features three races: the TMC Arizona Distance Classic Half Marathon (13.1 miles), the TMC Arizona Distance Classic Quarter Marathon (6.55 miles), and the TMC 5K (3.1 miles).
